Foundations

A 10-week journey designed to help you build a relationship with Jesus

What is Foundations?

Foundations is a 10-week group experience designed to help you build a strong foundation for your faith and learn what it means to follow Jesus in everyday life. Following Jesus is the greatest decision you will ever make—but you don't have to figure out what comes next on your own.

Each week begins with a real question followers of Jesus often ask: What happened when I trusted Jesus? How do I grow closer to God? Who is the Holy Spirit? Why do I need the church? How can God use my life?

Together, we'll open the Bible, discover clear answers to those questions, talk honestly in a small group, and learn simple rhythms that can help you build a lifelong relationship with Jesus.

You don't need to know the Bible. You don't need to have everything figured out. You just need to be willing to take your next step.

What Will I Experience?

Foundations is more than a class. It's a place to learn, ask questions, build relationships, and grow.

Each week includes practical biblical teaching followed by conversation with a small group and a Foundations Leader. You'll receive your own Foundations Participant Guide to use during the group and throughout the week as you begin developing rhythms of reading God's Word, prayer, worship, and following the Holy Spirit.

Our goal is simple: we want you to leave Foundations with clarity about what you believe, confidence in your relationship with Jesus, and clear next steps for continuing to grow.

Common Questions

Who is Foundations for?

Foundations is especially designed for new believers, people who have recently recommitted their lives to Jesus, and anyone who wants to establish a stronger foundation for their faith.

You may have followed Jesus for a while but still feel like there are important pieces you never fully understood. You're welcome too. Foundations gives you a safe place to ask questions and make sure the foundation underneath your faith is strong.

What if I don't know much about the Bible?

We'll help you learn how to read and understand the Bible, grab hold of important biblical truths, and begin applying God's Word to your everyday life. Every question is welcome.

What happens each week?

You'll begin together with practical teaching around that week's Foundational Question and Foundational Truth. Then you'll meet with your small group to discuss what you're learning, ask questions, read Scripture together, and pray.

You'll also have short Monday–Saturday devotionals in your Participant Guide that help you continue growing during the week.

Do I have to talk in the group?

You won't be pressured to share anything you're uncomfortable sharing. Our leaders want to create a relaxed and encouraging environment where you can participate, ask questions, and build relationships at your own pace.

As you get to know your group, we think you'll discover that following Jesus is better when you have community.

What if I miss a week?

Come back the next week! Each week builds on what you've already learned, so we encourage you to attend as consistently as possible, but missing a week doesn't mean you've failed or can't continue.

Your Participant Guide can also help you stay connected to what you're learning between gatherings.

Is Foundations the same as Freedom Groups?

No. They complement each other, but they serve different purposes.

Foundations helps establish the essential beliefs, relationships, and rhythms of following Jesus. Freedom Groups go deeper into removing obstacles, experiencing healing, and learning to live in the freedom God has for you.

For many people, Foundations can be an excellent beginning point before continuing into other opportunities for spiritual growth at Lakeshore.

Is Foundations only about learning information?

Not at all. We want you to understand what you believe, but Foundations is ultimately about building a relationship with Jesus.

Throughout the ten weeks, you'll have opportunities to pray, worship, read Scripture, build friendships, listen to the Holy Spirit, discover next steps, and begin putting what you're learning into practice.

The goal isn't simply to finish Foundations knowing more about God. Our hope is that you know Him personally, and that you know you have a track to run on for the rest of your life as you continue to follow Jesus.

Ready to Build Your Foundation?

Whether you recently decided to follow Jesus, are returning to your faith, or simply realize there are some gaps in your foundation, there is a place for you here.

You don't have to have everything figured out before you begin.
