How To Test An Impression
Posted on February 17th, 2010.How To Test An Impression
1 John 4:1 instructs us, “Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God…”
I’ve listed four essential tests to validate or dismiss an impression, decision or direction you sense the Holy Spirit is leading you in:
1. The Truth Test: Is it in agreement with God’s Word?
“And the people of Berea were more open-minded than those in Thessalonica, and they listened eagerly to Paul’s message. They searched the Scriptures day after day to see if Paul and Silas were teaching the truth.” Acts 17:11 NLT
2. The Wisdom Test: Am I following God’s wisdom?
“But the wisdom that comes from above leads us to be pure, friendly, gentle, sensible, kind, helpful, genuine, and sincere.” James 3:17 CEV
3. The Peace Test: Do I sense God’s peace about it?
“For God is not the author of confusion but of peace, as in all the churches of the saints.” 1 Cor. 14:33 NKJV
4. The Alignment Test: Is it in alignment with the God given authorities in my life, and is it in alignment with God’s timing for my life?
“Let all things be done decently and in order.” 1 Cor. 14:40 NKJV
I pray you begin to learn to follow the genuine leading of the Holy Spirit everyday for the rest of your life. There’s no better Guide to direct you in making vital decisions for your family and future.
“For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God.” Rom. 8:14 NLT
